Nath and I took a much-needed week off work this week… although it has turned into a rather busy time since my mum is moving house, and I have been on call for a few days on and off. I guess it is better than nothing – and every little bit counts towards saving my sanity! So since we haven’t been able to go away (due to above-mentioned reasons), we decided to be tourists in our own area around Brisbane. We went to Mt Tamborine and checked that out before heading to Surfers Paradise (by-passing the timeshare harpies) and going to Infinity and the Space Walker (wooohooohooohoooooooo <- that is supposed to look spooky)

I had expected Infinity (www.infinitygc.com.au) to be about lots of mirrors and laser effects (which it was) but I did not expect the ‘mysteries’ rooms. I don’t want to give too much away, but let me just say that the girly girl in me came right out that day. Gone were my visions of being Lara Croft-like through undiscovered caverns… gone was my embelishments of being Sigourney Weaver in any of her Alien movies, charging through fog ridden corridors, red laser lights shining forth… No more to be Milla Jovovich in any Resident Evil regalia…I turned into a right little Asian girl, hiding behind her boyfriends jacket, letting him tally forth to fight the monsters. I.. kid.. you.. not… Now I guess I could try to blame it on stress… maybe hormones… or the picnic we had in the midgy-infested park earlier that day.. but that wouldn’t be right. I think that deep down, I am just a girly girl. I might refute this statement tomorrow though.

Space Walker (www.spacewalker.com.au) was pretty cool too. We didn’t realise that you could only pick one ’show’ since we didn’t read the brochure before heading in. Also, the ’space-talk’ of the staff members was a little confusing for me (maybe I was still recovering from Infinity), but we ended choosing the show that goes to the end of the universe (that was very interesting for the geeks in us), and then we went through the rest of the setup. I would have liked to have checked out the ‘Restaurant at the end of the Universe’ but we didn’t really have time.

Then the next day we finally went to the Roma St Parklands. They are set up very nicely! I’ll have to review some photos to see if they are blog-worthy though.

Day Spa Bliss  0

I have found the perfect solution for managing my stress levels. A day spa with trainee beauticians! Not only do they do a pretty darn good job, they also do it for a great price! The other week I went to the QLD School of Beauty Therapy (www.qsb.com.au) and had a half day spa special thingy. It cost about $77.50 and included a facial, manicure, eyebrow wax, eyelash tint and a choice of either a massage, pedicure or half leg wax. Needless to say, I went for the massage – still questing for the perfect massage in the Brisbane area. All in all, I must say it was quite good. I entered the building in Toowong, not knowing quite what to expect. My ‘therapist’ came along, got me to fill out some forms (allergies etc) and then took me into the room to have the treatments done. I had expected some sort of training area, and I was right. There were about 10 or so tables (for massages and facials etc) in the room, with ‘customers’ in various stages of beauty therapy. Overhead was the piped ‘relaxation’ music common to day spas and beauty therapists worldwide. What was different, was the sound of 20 pairs of clacking high heels around the place, the various conversations between customers and therapists, and the muted whispering between therapists themselves. It was kinda funny in a way but didn’t detract from too much of the experience!

They started with the massage, and it while it wasn’t the whole ‘get-your-body-moving’ type of massage (remedial massage – I think it’s called), it was quite firm and pleasant. Afterwards they did a (much needed) eyebrow wax and then the facial. I decided to not do the eyelash tint unless they could do something really funky with them! I should have asked for bright purple… Oh, and then I had my first manicure ever. I can no longer look blankly when someone talks about manis and pedis (yay!) either. I decided to go for the french manicure and since I had been growing my nails for a few weeks, they looked fantastic! Unfortunately I mucked them up the moment I put my clothes back on (after swapping them for a terry towel muu muu type outfit – thank god Darren decided not to come! He would have looked so funny in one of those numbers!!!)… I spent the rest of the afternoon playing Singstar with Em since we were both incapacitated with ‘wet’ nails. I don’t know how other girls manage to do it though. My nails lasted for about 4 days before I got annoyed with them. They seriously affected my typing, and that’s a big no-no. So yes, I would go back again to the school.

Back to Singstar… I LOVE IT!!!!! It has made me realise that my singing of some songs requires a fair bit of work, but it is great to be able to judge my own singing voice. I got the Singstar pop pack (with mikes) as well as the original. After a little more practice, I might have to have a sing-off with some of the girls from work ;) But darn it! No Michelle Branch on the games just yet…

Perfect Potion  0

We have just found out that one of the Perfect Potion stores (www.perfectpotion.com.au) has opened in the Valley, not far from where we work. I went for a quick visit earlier this week in an attempt to chill out after 5 weeks of stress at work. I must have looked really stressed since the lovely lady there gave me a mini massage with some of their products. I walked out with a wheat heat pack and some of their Thai Fusion essential oil blend. Needless to say, after the work crisis was over that arvo, I went home to use the wheat pack as well as some of their Time Out massage oil I had gotten from ebay earlier this year. I’m currently using the Thai Fusion oil in my oil burner. Mmmm…. lemongrass, lime and ginger… I could get used to this! :) And I still can’t do without my Buzz pulse point aromatherapy purse pack thingy either. Helps me get through the tough days. Yes, this is my new favourite shop. Other people have handbags, shoes or clothing. I have nice smelly product shops like Body Shop, Lush and Perfect Potion. I guess it makes Christmas shopping easier for my family *grin*
