It sure has been a busy week for me! What started out as a short trip to Sydney, extended into a week long stay. I must say, I really do enjoy working out of North Sydney, with the view of the harbour (complete with Opera house and bridge). Even the hotel hasn’t been too bad although there aren’t too many cafes and restaurants open at night on that side of town, except for the hotel restaurant. There are a couple of pub-y places but not really the kind of place to go to alone… well, not for me anyway. I might have to do some more adventuring next time :)

What else? Uni starts this coming week so I have big plans to manage my time much better this semester! I’m actually doing 3 subjects, and because of my little fainting spell recently, that equates to 4 exams at the end of this semester!!!!! Not Happy JAN!

Went to see ‘Pirates of the Caribbean 2′ the other night after having dinner at Ginga at Southbank. We decided to try warm sake for the first time and I really enjoyed it! Warm sake and a sushi/sashimi platter. Yum! Southbank really is pretty at night time. It really makes me appreciate Brisbane a lot more. Oh, and the movie was pretty darn good as well. I just want to see more female swashbuckling though! Arrr…. pirrrates!

Accidentally Sherwood Road..  0

I think it is long last for a blog update here. I’ve had quite a busy 2 weeks where, as usual, nothing quite goes as expected or planned. For starters there was a big lead up to my final (law) exam for the last day of May. A day that was supposed to be fun, exhuberant and stress relieving (after the exam anyway). Instead, I spent most of the day lying on the couch, not having done my exam. And why? Because I fainted on the footpath on Sherwood Road. I had planned to have brekkie at Toowong Village and so we climbed up the street (carrying law textbook and notes) and powered our way to the train station. Once we stopped walking at the lights, I started getting dizzy and the next thing I knew I was lying on my back, looking up at Nath and some strangers. I felt like I was waking up from a dream but I was only unconscious for less than a minute. The funniest thing (and nicest too I guess) is that one of the people that stopped to help me told me her name and then said ‘I’m an ex-Ansett flight attendant’. Now, I know that flight attendants are trained to very strict regulations so that they can deal with an emergency, but that would have been the last thing for something to say to me to instill a sense of faith/trust, especially after working for an airline myself…. after working in the IT helpdesk of an airline and dealing with flight attendant ‘computer’ (read: PEBKAC = problem exists between keyboard and chair)… All that prejudice aside, she did a brilliant job of making me feel better before leaving. If anything, my experience just goes to show that human kindness is out there and we have so much potential to do great things (and even great little things) every day. The whole ‘do small acts of kindness daily’ thing. Anyway, so I went to the doctor who sent me to get a skull x-ray to make sure I hadn’t cracked my skull. On the bright side of things, I didn’t have to do my law exam! Although for some reason, I was actually upset about this at one stage ;) I have since found out that my deferred exam for this will be at the end of next semester. Nice… that means doing 4 exams instead of 3 (which was going to be bad enough!) …

So I spent the weekend ‘resting’ although did manage to do a little bit of shopping in there so I can’t have been too injured! Then on the Monday, I flew to Sydney and started my new job as an Account Manager for a software company.. that happens to deal with airline software. I’ve been really enjoying it so far – it’s a steep learning curve but I’m lucky because I know some of the people there already and I know the product. The job means a lot of flying around so I have decided to join up with QANTAS Frequent Flyers and I am already a member of Virgin’s Velocity program. It will be interesting to see which one gives me the most benefits in the end :) I had to convert one of our rooms into a ’study’ so that I won’t become too distracted during working hours (since I am mostly working from home). I think we’ve done a pretty good job of re-organising although my desk faces Nath’s wall of books (fantasy and sci-fi – my favourites!!!) so I tend to gaze at them and find ones I really want to get around to reading one day.. there’s a lot of them!

So now I am on a uni break, supposedly. I guess I could try and spend some of that time studying for the exam I didn’t do, but then I would just forget stuff again in 4 months time! Instead, I have found somewhere to spend my time lately at www.ksolo.com (see www.ksolo.com/kholakat for when I eventually find a song I want to record). It’s online karaoke although I haven’t decided if I want to join up yet with a monthly fee. It’s heaps of fun since it is almost anonymous karaoke :D

We went to the gym tonight for the first time in ages. I tried not to shock my body too much (in case I fainted again… and I don’t want to fall off a treadmill for the second time in my life!). There’s a Fitness First gym right across from head office in Sydney so I really have no excuse when I am down there next for work. Although sitting in a Sydney taxi sure is one way to increase the heart rate! To be fair, I have had some pretty good taxi drivers. I think they can definitely tell I am from ‘out-of-town’ since I like to sit in the front and chat with them. That stems from when a friend of mine used to drive taxis and he had mentioned how some people ignore drivers and it wasn’t very nice. So people, talk to your taxi drivers (as long as they seem like they can multi-task that is)!
