Next weekend I will be heading to Canberra to catch up with my lil sis and hear all about her trip overseas. I’m really looking forward to viewing all 2000 of their pics!! This happens to coincide with the ‘Walk to Cure Diabetes’ hosted by the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. So sis and I have signed up to do the 5km walk around Canberra, and we hope to raise some money within the next week to put towards a good cause.
If anyone is interested in donating, feel free to visit the site here: http://walk.jdrf.org.au/ACT/KathyKeynes/
If I reach my initial target ($50), then I will try to run as much of the 5km as possible. Currently I’m unsure as to how much of that 5km that will cover, but I am working on Week 4 of the ‘Couch to 5km’ running program at the moment…It has been tough, but it’s also felt like such an achievement to be able to get this far, so far. I think Week 5 and 6 get really tough, but if heaps of other people can do it, then so can I.
I’m also working on building up my overall fitness and strength, so I invested in some Cathe Friedrich DVDs, thanks to Dietgirl, and I have been quite impressed so far. I bought KickMax (kick boxing) and a Step Aerobics combo. Ok, so maybe some of it was a little more advanced that I was prepared for, but I have found a couple of online resources for step instructions, and I think I have mastered such steps as ‘Around the World’, ‘Power turn squat’ and ‘Bow and Arrow’. I had to watch some parts a few times, and then be prepared to think very quickly on my feet! The plan is to do a couple of these a week, interspersed with the running. I had a good week last week where I did something nearly every day. Let’s see how I go this week
I also plan on fitting in some good yoga/pilates workouts in there but I have yet to find one as good as the gym class pilates I used to do years ago. It wasn’t a Les Mills one either.
I have been listening to podcasts to try and learn some Egyptian Arabic as well. I have found the World Nomads Language guides to be fairly helpful so far. They even have a Malay one as well – one with plenty of food references! Yay!!
