A new direction… or an old one?  0

Posted on March 20th, 2009. About Naturopathy, Puppy.

I think that for most of my life I had been waivering between being a Capricorn and an Aquarius. I guess that happens when you are born on the cusp – or if you are looking at justifying your actions on a horoscope ;)

Basically, I spent the first 18 years of my life wanting to become a doctor. I had this revelation as a kid, that this was the best way I could help ‘God’. Plus, I did like the idea of helping other people, and science is so darn interesting! That was until I started doing a biomed degree and finally accepting the fact that I did not like chemistry, out of all the sciences. I also vividly remember one of our tutes where a girl gave a talk on Reiki. I must say, I felt that it changed my life then and there. I knew that I had to go and study some natural therapies/medicine one day, when the time was right. I had always planned on being a medical doctor who went to learn Tibetan mysteries but it didn’t quite turn out that way. I knew that I had to become a Reiki practitioner one day because it is so in-line with my belief system and my understanding of how the universe interacts.

Fast forward 13 years later, and I think I am back on the right path again. A seemingly random web ad trail leading me to a link on naturopathy studies… Talking to the naturopath at the place where I get de-stressing massages…enrolling into an Adv Dip of Naturopathy at the AIAS… it all happened very, very quickly. And here I am. Now a student again, after swearing never to study anymore after the IT stuff I did. Current plan is to do a few subjects as a taste of the subjects. See if I really am interested enough to learn or not. I have since done some more research and I think I might move across to the Endeavour college after I finish these few subjects. They offer a Bachelor of Health Science in Naturopathy, plus I can major in Traditional Chinese Medicine. See if it runs in the blood ;) I’ve been enjoying the study so far but I’m not sure if it’s just because it is all ‘new’ (but not really ‘new’ since so much of the philosophy etc behind the subjects seem like ‘old’ knowledge to me).

On the other hand, it could be related to the new, slightly more organised, me! I’ve got a fitness calendar and a study calendar right now (which I haven’t actually looked at since I have been studying during all my spare time lately – I’ve been enjoying it that much!). The fitness thing is going pretty well – I’m aiming to do at least half an hour every day. This is from a mix of treadmill running (interval training with C25K), Cathe aerobic DVDs, and some other fitness shows from around the place. I’m noticing differences with my fitness and my clothes. Darn scales (and Wii Fit) does not agree though. I blame the muscle generation!

Hmm, in family news, lil Gizmo went for cataract surgery on one of his eyes. We will get the other one done later on this year. Poor lil guy – having to use a plastic lens and he’s not even 2 (human) years old yet! In usual form, he bounced back the next day and we can already tell that his vision has improved dramatically. Yay!

Oh, and it’s just over 6 weeks until Egypt! w00t!

p.s. Have still yet to find that Reiki course though
